So the first event of the PGA Europro Tour had come, and what a stunning venue to open the season… The Belfry’s Brabazon Course! The former Ryder Cup and European Tour course would test all with brutal rough for errant drives and missed greens, playing 7,300 yards with sloped greens running at 12 on the stimp! Stuart also got to play some of the most famous holes in world golf with the driveable Par 4 10th hole and Par 4 18th. Some famous names of European Tour winners of past including Paul Broadhurst, Peter Baker and Bradley Dredge were also in the field of 156.

Stuart opened with a round of 75 (+3) and followed that with a second round of 72 (E) to make the cut comfortably but 10 shots off of the leader Jack Senior. A final round of 74 (+2) on the toughest of the three days jumped Stuart up the leader board into a tie for 20th place. The highlight of the final day was Stuart channelling the late Seve Ballesteros and driving the par 4 10th. His tee shot found the small green and finished 20ft from the flag which led to the easiest of birdie 3’s on that historic hole.

Stuart was happy with the way he played, but disappointed with the amount of putts that he had and felt that was the difference between him and the leaders. “The greens were very quick, and this early in the season proved difficult to judge and led to a number of three putts. Tee to green I was very happy round a truly demanding test of golf so pleased overall”

The eventual winner was Will Harrold who won by a shot on -4.
